Coca has been, ancestrally, a sacred leaf. We, the indigenous, have had a profound respect toward it... a respect that includes that we don't "pisar" it (the verb "pisar" means to treat the leaves with a chemical substance, one of the first steps in the production of cocaine). In general, we only use it to acullicar: We chew it during times of war, during ritual ceremonies to salute Mother Earth (the Pachamama) or Father Sun or other Aymara divinities, like the hills. Thus, as an indigenous nation, we have never prostituted Mama Coca or done anything artificial to it because it is a mother. It is the occidentals who have prostituted it. It is they who made it into a drug. This doesn't mean that we don't understand the issue. We know that this plague threatens all of humanity and, from that perspective, we believe that those who have prostituted the coca have to be punished. - former Bolivian guerrilla leader and presidential candidate Felipe Quispe 2002 via Rigorous Intuition (link)

Criolla Boliviana

Larsen is trash, went to Bolivia poor as a rat and took land that belong to tribes, working them as slaves for food and roof,he HAD 2 sons with the local bar girl and feels superior to Bolivians, the Landowners families that we had had land since the 1500 gave back them to the indian comunities during the AGRARIAN REFORM in 1952 and no Bolivian es permited to owe the amount of land this thief does, shame on the US that codones this acts. ALL HIS LAND SHOULD BE RETURNED TO THE LOCAL TRIBE, EVEN US ,THAT WE ARE AGAINST MORALES, AGREES.

You have NO idea what you are talking about. Poor as a rat? Where do you get this ridiculous information? And a thief? You need to learn the difference between buying land and stealing it. The Bolivian government has staged a Robin Hood-like effort to put property into the hands of those it deems more worthy than the actual owners. I've not heard any compensation to the Larsens offered, is this land reform or some Evo twist on eminent domain? Evo Morales is the larcenist, not Ron Larsen; pardon the pun. We shouldn't be surprised however; considering Evo has called capitalism the greatest ememy of mankind. Ron purchased Caraparicito in 1969 and has worked the land honestly while providing employment opportunities to indigenous people. While the media claims his workers be only existing, as opposed to prospering; I'd be willing to bet they lead a much nicer "existence" than a majority of Bolivians with many amenities not available to other indigenous people in They are free to come and go as they please, why do they not venture elsewhere for this prosperity they desire? They could come to the US, where our ambitious new "leader" also has plans to redistribute the wealth like the ignorant yet impassioned Evo Morales. Mr. Larsen chose this path over a life of privilege as a wealthy American, his sons are Bolivian citizens. He should be commended, not criticized.
