Coca has been, ancestrally, a sacred leaf. We, the indigenous, have had a profound respect toward it... a respect that includes that we don't "pisar" it (the verb "pisar" means to treat the leaves with a chemical substance, one of the first steps in the production of cocaine). In general, we only use it to acullicar: We chew it during times of war, during ritual ceremonies to salute Mother Earth (the Pachamama) or Father Sun or other Aymara divinities, like the hills. Thus, as an indigenous nation, we have never prostituted Mama Coca or done anything artificial to it because it is a mother. It is the occidentals who have prostituted it. It is they who made it into a drug. This doesn't mean that we don't understand the issue. We know that this plague threatens all of humanity and, from that perspective, we believe that those who have prostituted the coca have to be punished. - former Bolivian guerrilla leader and presidential candidate Felipe Quispe 2002 via Rigorous Intuition (link)

Just out of curiosity why are you posting something that happen in Chicago nearly five years ago??? I remember when all this went down. I read the materials that the Center for New Community had on Death In June and thought that they made their case even if I didn't agree with them personally.

All in all . . . Death In June likes to provoke a reaction and they got one. Seems a little lame to claim you like to shock people and then whine when they respond. Kinda of hypocritical to me.

It was not the reaction of the Center for New Community but the reaction of Death In June that disgusted me. You can check out the debate for youself on the old Empty Bottle board which I thought argued each sides points very well. Unlike Jim's article.

I like Jim but thought he missed the whole point but falsely trying to make it an issue of free speech. The Center for New Community is not the Goverment so they were not out of line by responding how they did.

Still . . . why did up something from five years ago? Curious.

Thanks for your comment.

Someone brought this to my attention a couple of weeks ago and it dovetailed rather nicely into an on going discussion I've had with a few individuals regarding aesthetic fascism versus 'real' fascism; in particular the infiltration of racism/fascism into the black metal scene.

This is also an 'archive' or it makes an attempt at being an archive, so readers will not necessarily be receiving late breaking news here. For example, a Time Magazine article on Gladio from 1999 was recently posted here.

By the way, I am not a particularly big fan of Death in June or Current 93...'musically' speaking. If it has 'male' vocals in that particular or related genre of 'music' I'll probably hate it.

If you know of any 'good' 'anarcho-'black metal bands, please let me know.

'Race' doesn't exist anymore...not as it once (quite recently) was understood or communicated. There's only one 'race' now: the 'race' created by the corporate state. The standardization of the human 'product' is here now and the (anti)culture forces a misanthropic stance.

If right-wing extremists use to assist in DIJ concerts, what do they think about his frontman being a declared gay himself? And we already know what those extremists think about homosexuality...
