The cathode-ray tube or "Crookes' tube" like object depicted in scenes from the temple of Hathor at Dendera may depict a relativistic source of these heavy electrons - which could drastically expedite the magical processes which involve these particular tubes.
The walls are decorated with human figures next to bulb-like objects reminiscent of oversized light bulbs. Inside these "bulbs" there are snakes in wavy lines. The snakes' pointed tails issue from a lotus flower, which, without much imagination, can be interpreted as the socket of the bulb. Something similar to a wire leads to a small box on which the air god is kneeling. Adjacent to it stands a two-armed djed pillar as a symbol of power, which is connected to the snake. Also remarkable is the baboon-like demon holding two knives in his hands, which are interpreted as a protective and defensive power.
In his book The Eyes of the Sphinx, Erich Von Däniken writes that the relief is found in "a secret crypt" that "can be accessed only through a small opening. The room has a low ceiling. The air is stale and laced with the smell of dried urine from the guards who occasionally use it as a urinal." The room is not so secret, however, as many tourists visit and photograph the room every year. Von Daniken sees the snake as a filament, the djed pillar as an insulator, and claims "the monkey with the sharpened knives symbolizes the danger that awaits those who do not understand the device." This "device" is, the reader is assured, an ancient electric light bulb.
Ancient Egyptian Alchemy and Science
Consider these two dragons, for they are the true beginnings of philosophy which the sages were not permitted to show their children. The one at the bottom is called the fixed and the constant or the man. But the upper snake is the volatile or black, dark woman. The first is called sulphur or the warm and dry. The other is called quicksilver or the cold and moist (...).

Project Quicksilver
...a special "Quicksilver gland" in his head. The gland lets Fawkes secrete a light-bending substance called " "Quicksilver" from his pores and follicles. The substance quickly coats his skin, hair, nails and clothes and renders him invisible (he can still see because the Quicksilver covering his eyes shifts other wavelengths of light into the visible spectrum.) He can consciously release the Quicksilver, which then flakes off and disintegrates. The catch is that the Quicksilver gland was sabotaged at its creation to release a neurotoxin that accumulates in his bloodstream and causes intense pain, followed by psychosis and antisocial behavior. He requires regular doses of "counteragent" to keep him sane and healthy, which is controlled by said government agency.

Risks of Prolonged Invisibility
Although no long-term research is currently available on the subject, preliminary evidence from subject Simon Cole suggests that subjects rendered permanently invisible become anxious very quickly, and rapidly develop dissociative personality disorders. A sense of disconnection from the physical world sets in and appears to contribute to a state of heightened paranoia and rage.
Dr. Diefendorf says, in Chapter VI on Dementia Paralytica (Paresis) :
Dementia Paralytica, or general paresis of the insane, is a chronic psychosis of middle age, characterized by progressive mental deterioration with symptoms of excitation of the central nervous system, leading to absolute dementia and paralysis, and pathologically, by a fairly definite series of organic changes in the brain and spinal cord, probably the result of some toxin, in the origin of which syphilis is most often an important factor.
Etiology.--The disease is unknown among the uncivilized nations and is most prevalent in western Europe and North America, hence, it seems to be a disease of modern civilization. In America, the disease comprises from five to eight per cent of the admissions to insane institutions, but in some European cities, notably Berlin and Munich, the paretics average thirty-six to forty-five per cent of the male admissions. The disease is somewhat more prevalent in large cities and manufacturing centers, while it is relatively rare in farming communities.
Uncivilized nations do not treat syphilis or other diseases with mercury; therefore, we find among them no Dementia Paralytica, locomotor ataxia or paralysis agitans. These diseases are found only in localities of the earth where drug stores flourish.
Therefore, paralytic diseases are more prevalent in large cities and manufacturing centers where syphilitic diseases and consequent mercurial treatment are more prevalent.
